DIY Wallpaper Party Bags

As you may know, Ra Ra Superstar is gearing up for it's summer launch party so I chipped in to help make some of these fabulous party bags out of vintage wallpaper. They are so easy to make you might want to make some for your own party or to use as a beautiful gift bag for a lovely pressie!

Here's what you need to get started:

* Vintage Wallpaper (recycled books, scrapbook paper, newspaper, fabric and many other materials would also work)

* Scissors

* Ruler

* Sewing Machine

* Thread

Now here are the instructions:

Step 1: Cut two pieces the exact same size for the main part of the bag. They can be any size or shape you want.

Step 2: Now cut two pieces for the sides of the bag. These need to be the same height as the piece in Step 1 but they can be any width you desire. Once they have been cut, fold them in half across the width.

Note: These bags don't have a bottom to them but you could easily add one. Cut one piece and make sure it is the same width as the piece cut in Step 1, and the height is the same as the width of the side pieces cut in Step 2.

Step 3: Now cut out some handles (we used pages from a book for the handles on these bags). Determine how long you want the handles to be and make sure they are wide enough to fold in half and fit easily through a sewing machine. Cut two the same size for each bag and then fold them in half.

Step 4: Stitch the length of each handle from end to end.

Step 5: Using a ruler make two marks across the top of each of the main bag pieces to note where the handles are to be placed.

Step 6: Place the top corner of one of the main pieces in the sewing machine and stitch across stopping at the first handle mark. Place the handle and then stitch over it. Keep stitching until you hit the second mark and then fold over the handle and stitch across that end. Continue sewing until you have stitched all the way across the top of the bag.

Repeat this with the other main bag piece and handle.

Step 7: Take one of the folded side pieces and align it to the top of one of the main bag pieces. Stitch from top to bottom.

Repeat on the other side with the second side piece and trim any uneven edges if necessary.

Step 8: Now place the second main piece on top of the side pieces and stitch along each side. Trim any uneven edges if necessary.

Step 9: Stitch across the bottom from one end of the bag to the other.

Note: If you wanted to add a bottom piece to the bag, this is when you would do it.
