Ra Ra How To : 4 Tips for Pattern Clashing August 21 2015, 0 Comments

Pattern clashing can be dangerous territory; experimenting with it can leave you looking fun and fashionable or (for most of us) like maybe a child picked our outfit. When done right though, it is an amazing way to mix things up a bit and get crazy while still looking like you know what you're doing and how to style yourself.

So, to help you navigate this fashion minefield, here are Ra Ra's 4 tips for clashing:

1. COLOUR CO-ORDINATE

If you are going to be mixing patterns, make sure the fabrics have some overlapping colours! Just one or two is all you need to make them look like they belong together.

2. KEEP THE REST OF YOUR OUTFIT SIMPLE

Don't wear any other statement pieces with the outfit, you're already juggling a lot of fabulous and adding to that might very well take away from it more than anything. Stick to black, white and nudes underneath (depending what matches of course!) or maybe a block colour that matched both the fabrics if you're feeling daring.

3. TWO PATTERNS MAXIMUM

It is not unheard of for more than two patterns to be pulled off in a magical clash of colour, BUT it is incredibly difficult to pull off. You have to have a really outgoing, eccentric style and a lot of confidence to nail three or more patterns, so we suggest limiting it to just two.

4. TRY TO HAVE ONE PATTERN AS THE FOCUS

When putting together an outfit like this you should choose your statement pattern first (the one you think is most eye-catching, that you want to be the most prominent) and then work from there. Choose your second pattern to compliment this one, whether that means a subtler print or fewer colours.
